Newbie, here.

As far as I can tell, until the last Updraftplus update everything was OK. (This may just be coincidental, of course.)

Now I can download only four of the five backup categories. 'Uploads' seems to progress for a few minutes (typically 10 of the 15 on the Firefox download indicator) and then jumps to suggest it has finished. Checking the downloads however it just says 'failed'. There is no other message.

I am downloading to my PC.

Frankly I don't know where to start to resolve this and any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Just to clarify, this occurs when attempting to download the Uploads backup through the UpdraftPlus Existing Backups tab?

Which remote storage method are you using (if any)?

Could you send us a copy of the log for the backup set you are attempting to download?
This will be too long to post here directly, but you can use an online service (such as pastebin), and post the link here.

Yes, that is correct.
I am not using any remote storage, just directly downloading to my PC.
I am not familiar with pastbin so I'll investigate it... ok...
I think I have done this right.

I had tried to back up a number of times. I did not move off the page when I was downloading (an automatic 'fail') and I had shut any pages I could in order to keep open the download channel.

The latest download, for which I provide the log, was only for the Uploads backup. I didn't try to back up any of the others unless that one worked.

Yes, the file above changes to a pdf. I just tried something on my own. I went to my download file on my computer, then I tried to open it in another program. I selected winzip. It doesn't like the .gz extension.

Apologies, for all of this. Do you have any other suggestions?

Hi Les,

Could I ask what hosting company you are with? We have had some issues in the past with certain server setups

Could you also try reducing the split size of the backup archives? To do this, go to the 'expert settings' section of the UpdraftPlus Settings tab. There you should find an option labelled 'Split archives every'. Reduce this option to 25MB, then save. Can you then attempt a fresh backup and try to download the Uploads? (This will result in several smaller files)

Dear DNutbourne,

That seems to have solved it for the Uploads, thank you!

The default download was supposed to be 400 but for some reason it was saying 500.

Would you recommend setting it any higher than 25 now that we know there is a solution? I ask because it just takes time manually downloading every 2 minutes and not being able to do anything else on the computer while that happens. If not, then I will live with it, of course.

The hosting company is GoDaddy.

Try downloading the backup directly from your remote storage. i.e. If it's Dropbox, go to http://www.dropbox.com. Or if it's just on the webserver, use FTP or the web hosting company's file manager. Or, you could download it on a different computer.

Hi Les,

I would recommend contacting GoDaddy and asking them if they have a limit on the size of files that can be processed for download.

In the meantime, I would recommend keeping the split at the current level.

Seems to have resolved itself after a couple tries, time and with a small update to the UpdraftPlus version. Resolved.

Hi,

I'm trying to take a backup using UpdraftPlus and it's taking a lot of time (1 hour++) & there are multiple warnings & errors in log files.

I think a lot of it has to do with WP_STATPRESS table which is related to the plugin NEW StatPress.

The backup is constantly stopping at varios instances with this warning in the progress bar:
Waiting until scheduled time to retry because of errors

What should be done here to take proper backup?

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated

I can open them on my PC. Very odd. When I go to download them from Google Drive, it tells me the files are too large to scan and that they may be corrupt. But I download anyways, and I can view my videos, my images, etc. Since they are sent to Google Drive in chunks I downloaded all the zipped files, and they all worked.

Sorry I had replied to this but now that I'm looking again the reply wasn't there. Thank you for your timely response.

Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated. I am on managed Wordpress with GoDaddy and they backup my website every night - but all Wordpress users know that catastrophe can strike any moment if you're not careful enough. And I'd like to be able to use UpdraftPlus to backup to Google Drive / Restore. I set it up correctly (otherwise I would think the backup doesn't work). I can see them in GoogleDrive, but every time, the restore fails. I always backup remotely as well. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

First I need to say thank you for this fantastic plugin and your brilliant work!
I've noticed that updraftplus installed together with LayerSlider WP causes jquery errors in the WP Backend.
So none of the buttons at the updraft settings page can be clicked. My workaround is to deactivate LayerSlider temporarily and activate the backup scheduler.
I can live with this solution but maybe you have an idea how to solve this issue.

Hi,

Thanks for the kind words! You should ask the Layerslider people to make sure that their plugin only loads its jQuery stuff on its own pages, and not on pages belonging to other plugins.... there's no cause for it to load code on UD's page, as there's no Layerslider ever going to be on that page.

Yes, you're absolutely right on this point. I will ask the people at Layerslider about a fix.
I just wanted to share my experience. Maybe that helps someone with a similar issue.

I finaly found a easy fix for this issue: All you have to do is to deactivate the "Use Google CDN version of jQuery" setting in the main screen of LayerSlider.
