Hi,
Which remote storage service are you using (Google Drive, OneDrive, etc.)
Are any errors displayed in the 'Current Status' tab?

Hi, you are receiving the 'low visitors' warning. This means that WordPress is not being loaded into memory at a regular enough interval. This means that the backup is not able to resume on time.
We have a guide available that explains the issue further, and provides some suggestions for resolving the issue (e.g. through scheduling some dummy visits to the site):
https://updraftplus.com/faqs/why-am-i-getting-warnings-about-my-site-not-having-enough-visitors/
Try wiping the settings (in the 'Advanced Tools' tab, there's a button for this), and then setting up again... does that resolve it?

I am trying to update the UpdraftPlus plugin to the latest version. The website is using WordPress 4.5.2. It is hosted on http://www.ipower.com. The site is http://www.lanelibraryfriends.org. This is what happened as best as I recall:
1. When trying to change the settings from sending backups to email to Dropbox, when I hit Save Changes, the changes went into an infinite loop. I had to logout of the WP-ADMIN and the setting changes weren't saved.
2. When I clicked on Backup Now, the settings were still on Email. I received 2 emails, and then the backup stopped.
3. Then I tried to change the Settings back to email
4. Now when trying to update the version of UpdraftPlus to the latest version, a similar things happened. The version update is looping with message "Updating..." and it hasn't completed in over 30 minutes.
I really like this plugin. I was trying to add it on a different website, with an older version of WordPress, and the backup didn't end. But that was a different site and different story.
Please let me know if there is something else I should do or if you need more information.
I have UPdraftplus files(backups) ready for download but I cannot not open the associated file type. It tries to open in a pdf. How do I change the type of file? I cannot upgrade my version until I know the backup is good.
Please help.
Thank you kindly.
Hi,
UpdraftPlus backup files should be standard ZIP archives (or GZIP in the case of the database backup). You can unzip these with any good zipping utility (such as 7-zip).
Understood, but it doesn't download as such. It tries to download as a pdf.
Hello UpdraftPlus
First off I love your plugin, I've installed it on 20+ websites.
But I was wondering. If I do a backup in cPanel of my VPS of all my domains then is that doing the same thing as your plugin?
I appreciate your plugin does a WordPress Database dump.
Would you know if the cPanel backup does a database dump?
I really like that your plugin offers a restore option.
I don't want to be duplicating my backups. I'd prefer to pick one or the other.
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
On one of the downloaded backup files, could you right click and open the 'Properties'? Under 'File type' and 'Opens with', what is shown?
Hi,
A cPanel backup performs essentially the same thing as UpdraftPlus.
However, cPanel backups are just a dump of the site, whereas UpdraftPlus splits the backup into relevant sections. This allows individual sections to be restored separately.
Hi there, it won’t download to a file at all. It immediately tries to open as a PDF when I select Download to your computer.
I went to my successful backups performed several days ago and they open just as they should. I do not know why I can no longer download my backups to my computer as zip files.
Not all of the files open incorrectly.. it's the database download that is the problem.
What happens if you use the option to save the file to disk, instead of opening it in the browser?

@DNutbourne
Thanks for replying.
OK to clarify the point. Both cPanel and UpdraftPlus perform a database backup?
Cheers
I love that idea, if it was an option.
There is only an option to download or delete from server. Wish I could send you a picture of what I am seeing.
Hi,
UpdraftPlus does perform a backup of the WordPress database.
I believe that cPanel can take a backup of the databases as part of the backup.
Hi,
You can take a screenshot (using Alt+PrintScreen), and upload the image to a sharing site (such as https://snag.gy/).
You can then share the link to the shared image here.
Neat. Here you go.

I can download everything but the database.
thanks!
OK thanks I think I will stick with UpdraftPlus :-)
